10TH ANNIVERSARY OPEN VALENCIA
The Association of Contemporary Art Galleries of the Valencian Community (LAVAC) opens the season with the celebration of the tenth edition of Abierto València. After a decade of uninterrupted opening, this event has consolidated its position as one of the most important artistic and cultural events in the Valencian Community. Ten years of Abierto València that reflect the artistic and cultural panorama of the Community.
Abierto València will take place from 23 to 30 September, adding guided tours, round tables and activities to the traditional seasonal opening of the galleries, whose main mission is to bring contemporary art closer to the public.
In this special edition we would like to thank the sponsors and collaborators who have accompanied us all these years, and without whom we could not have reached this point, for their support to the galleries, artists and art. In addition, we welcome new sponsors and collaborators who are adding acquisitions and activities to this tenth edition.
As in previous years, we will have the acquisitions of the Conselleria de Cultura for the “Best Exhibition” and of the Ayuntamiento de València for the “Outstanding Artist”, which will be chosen by a professional jury that this year is made up of Marta García Pastor, head of the Historical and Artistic Heritage Service of the Ayuntamiento de València (València City Council), Joan Ramon Escrivà i Monzó, IVAM conservator, José Luis Pérez Pont, director of the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània at Consorci de Museus CMCV, Blanca de la Torre, art historian, critic and exhibition curator, and Nimfa Bisbé, director of the contemporary art collection at Fundación “La Caixa”.
We will also have the acquisitions of the Hortensia Herrero Foundation, the DKV Collection, the Gandía Blasco Group, Makma and the Juan José Castellano Comenge Foundation. In addition, in this edition, we are adding the acquisitions of Feria de Marte, from Castellón, La Escalera Collection and the Kells Collection.
Cervezas Alhambra, through its contemporary creation platform crear/ without/ hurry, celebrates for the third time in Abierto València the Premio Cervezas Alhambra with the aim of recognising, disseminating and promoting the creations of emerging artists and the galleries that host them, to bring them to a wider public and contribute to the revaluation of the works. The prize will be chosen by popular vote online and will be awarded on the last day of the event, 30 September.
The 10th Anniversary will feature a programme with a greater number of activities, from 23 to 30 September, including the following events:
On Friday 23 September at 12 noon, the big week of art in Valencia kicks off with a press conference to be held at IVAM, which will be broadcast via streaming and in which the acquisitions of the different collections and institutions will be announced. In the afternoon, from 17:00h to 21:00h, the traditional opening of the 17 galleries will be an unmissable event in the city.
On the morning of Saturday 24 September, the ARCO GalleryWalks are scheduled, guided tours sponsored by Feria ARCO and with the collaboration of PERMEA, the CCCC’s mediation programme. In the afternoon at 18:00h will take place the Round Table “Private Perspectives on Contemporary Art”, sponsored by the Secreto de la Filantropía and moderated by its president, Luis Trigo, at IVAM. The participants on this occasion will be: Steffie Phlippen and Francisco Sánchez, founders of the La Escalera Collection, the collector Josep María Civit, and the director of Fundación Campocerrado and also a collector, Borja Fernández-Cobaleda. To conclude the day at 20:00h the Fiesta will be held again at IVAM, which has not taken place for two years due to the pandemic.
On Sunday 25 September, as a novelty and extending the usual programme of Abierto València, the galleries will open their doors in the morning and there will be guided tours, ARCO GalleryWalks, organised by PERMEA.
From Monday 26 to Thursday 29 September, and a new feature of this tenth edition, there will be a guided tour of the galleries every afternoon thanks to the support of Cervezas Alhambra.
On Tuesday 27 September at 19:00h the Round Table “Dialogues on the latest trends in the contemporary art market” organised by euMGAC Postgraduate at the Cañada Blanch Foundation will be held with the participation of Marta Pérez Ibáñez, Collections Advisor and Researcher, and the directors of the Postgraduate Jorge Sebastián and Amparela Benlliure.
On Friday 30 September, to conclude the event, the winner of the Cervezas Alhambra Award will be announced, closing Abierto València with a celebration at the winning gallery.
We are extending our collaboration with València World Design Capital 2022, which will include guided visits to the galleries in the programme of its World Design Street Festival. And thanks to the collaboration of ÈTICA and Caixa Forum València we will make private visits to Biohub, with Fernando Ibáñez, Co-founder and CEO of ÉTICA, and to the recently inaugurated headquarters of Caixa Forum in València with Nimfa Bisbé, director of the contemporary art collection at Fundación “La Caixa”.
The galleries participating in this 10th edition of Abierto València are: the gallery EspaiNivi Collblanc from Castellón and Isabel Bilbao from Alicante, and the Valencian galleries Luis Adelantado, Benlliure, Alba Cabrera Gallery, Cuatro Gallery, House Of Chappaz, La Mercería, Tuesday to Friday, Jorge López Gallery, Rosa Santos, Set Espai d’Art, Shiras Gallery, The Liminal, Gabinete de Dibujos, Thema Gallery, and Vangar Gallery.
