“Today is tomorrow” activities program. September-October 2022

The following exhibitions are contemplated, as we have pointed out in the introductory text, within the framework of LAVAC’s collaboration with València Capital del Diseño 2022. This selection responds to the criteria promoted by New European Bauhaus (NEB) from broad creative perspectives. Sustainability, inclusion and diversity, participation and collectivity or innovation, among others, are issues addressed by the programme of exhibitions and activities put forward by the galleries, whose selection we will highlight here according to a monthly programme.

CÀNEM GALLERY (Castellón). Altres mons possibles [Other worlds are possiblers]. Javier Puértolas. 24.09—26.11

Javier Puértolas presents a series of canvases in which he proposes an alternative to the centrality of vision. Faced with the weight of images that invade everything, with his canvases, the artist seeks to destabilise a visual culture that blinds us, not allowing us to see.

LUIS ADELANTADO GALLERYCasapuerta. Fuentesal Arenillas. 23.09 – 18.11

In the exhibition Casapuerta, Julia Fuentesal and Pablo Arenillas present a wide catalogue of formal variations through which sculpture becomes more the less it is. Using easily malleable materials, Fuentesal Arenillas undertake a simple DIY operation to produce surprising configurations halfway between the formally and functionally recognisable and the alteration implied by the rationally indefinable.

ROSA SANTOS GALLERY. El amor es triste [Love is sad]. Xisco Mensua. 23.09 – 25.11

Xisco Mensua in El amor es triste [Love is sad ] presents diverse works (canvases, papers, ceramics and a projection) as a collage in which very diverse aspects of the frequent are brought together. Like fragments of a time that blows its echoes over and over again, here we see a compendium of the obsessions that surround the work of this artist. Illuminations of the everyday that end up adding up to a palimpsest in which time acts with reverberations where the feeling of loss springs up in silent gushes to somehow reconstruct that which is blurred in the present.

SET ESPAI D’ART. War Radio Show. Acaymo S. Cuesta, Irma Marco, Javier Rodríguez Pino, Sabela Zamudio y Xavier Monsalvatje, en colaboración con la colección Alfaro Hoffman. 23.09-26.11

Based on the radio set, the VE301 according to Joseph Goebbels’ instructions, five artists present their particular way of seeing the curious relations between design, production, technology and politics. Against the backdrop of Putin’s war, the resonances of that radio are now heard in a tantan that is passed from artist to artist to show the urgency of seeing with four eyes beyond what is said, heard and unsaid.

GALERÍA JORGE LÓPEZ.  Punk Beginnings 2022 – New tracks El Punk(no) ha muerto. Gema Polanco, Álvaro Porras y Javier Bravo de Rueda. 23.09 – 18.11

Works of diverse techniques and media come together to show, each in its own way, the precarious condition of the contemporary being. From a position of fragility, which shows the resilience of art, canvases, drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations bring together the proposals of the artists Gema Polanco, Álvaro Porras and Javier Bravo de Rueda. The deliberate bad work, the unstable and unfinished weave a plot in which the form ends up being vilified in order to question the creative act itself.

Pink holes 2022. Victoria Iranzo

The Liminal. I wish you could hear what I remember. Lauren Moffatt. 23.09 – 25.11

In I wish you could hear what I remember, Lauren Moffatt uses virtual reality to draw attention to the inconsistency of the images with which we construct the present. Images subject to a constant variability that the artist places at the spectator’s disposal so that, as long as they can recognise themselves in them, they also provoke the strangeness of an imposture in what she has come to call liquid identities.

Gabinete de dibujos. Un pájaro no canta porque tenga una respuesta [A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer]. Esciff y Otto 183. 23.09 – 02.12

The exhibition A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer presents twenty works on paper created by Escif in collaboration with his young son. The papers contain the characteristic motifs of Escif’s graffiti. Figures that enter and leave the space of the painting to blend into urban environments in which conflict often arises. Simple, recognisable forms which, on these papers, appear as instantaneous images to which is added, in a camouflage operation, the spontaneity of a discordant gesture, that of Otto.

Espainivi Collblanc (Castellón). Descanso [Rest]. Ismael Teira. 08.10 – 21.02.2023

In the exhibition entitled Descanso (Rest), Ismael Teira presents a series of photographs and an installation in which the urban and rural landscapes are linked. The images we see propose a journey along those paths that border on the established in the organisation of city walks. As anti-normative registers, other forms of walking and other strolls show a domestication of a landscape, always subject to collective transformations.
